Momentum for Change
Coaching, Dr. Peggy MarshallThis month we are focusing on working on the right things. It is possible that the goals we set at the beginning of the year were not the right ones for us. This can be the very reason lost momentum towards our goals. How do we know what areas of our own self-development we need to work on?

Achieving Your Dreams
Coaching, Dr. Peggy MarshallIf a man knows not what harbor he seeks,
any wind is the right wind.
-Seneca
Every year most of us start the year with dreams that we want to make happen. The first question for you is-are these dreams that you want for yourself or are you living someone else’s dream? Have you become numb to what you really want in order to be sensible or gain approval from someone else? 2010 can be your break-out year!! This is the year to get really clear on what you want and stop settling for less than that.

Love Yourself First
Coaching, Dr. Peggy Marshall No mistake has an expiration date, rather when my client tries to move beyond past decisions which didn’t lead to the best outcomes her mother is quick to remind her of those decisions. I have learned over the years and coached my client to the fact that when others are quick to point out past mistakes or transgressions, the issue is more with the person who is doing the pointing.

What is Your WHY?
Coaching, Dr. Peggy Marshall What are you waking up to? Are you feeling drawn to do something new, try something new or just reaffirm commitments you made at the beginning of the year?

Mini Habits
Coaching, Dr. Peggy MarshallThinking that a new behavior will take too much effort, we tend to put it off to a later time when we have the time or desire to invest in the effort. Rubin in Better than Before shares another important point about effort. When we are trying to change a behavior that we have tried to change previously, the effort to change it becomes more difficult. This makes the case for setting yourself up for success from the very beginning of the change process.

Choose the Most Valuable Reality
Coaching, Dr. Peggy MarshallAlthough choosing the most valuable reality may take more energy from you, it will definitely make a change in your relationships and potentially your own happiness. It is by sifting through not only the opinions and beliefs that we hold most dearly but also understanding that others who influence us may not have the entire picture and that we can come to new states of understanding if we open to alternative views!

The Negative Thinking Spiral
Coaching, Dr. Peggy MarshallComplicating the negativity bias is our memories which are either implicit or explicit. Although explicit memory is typically a positive phenomenon, what is stored in implicit memory is more often negatively biased. As we access these memories we continue to build more energy for the negative and may even perceive events as negative due to memories rather than what is actually happening in the moment.

Fear in the Midst of Change
Coaching, Dr. Peggy Marshallfear puts our brains into a negative mindset and induces worry. Hugh Prather in “The Little Book of Letting Go” shares that there are several attitudes that enable the worrier. First, believing that it is natural to worry. We develop this belief because we know so many people who do worry and accept it as a natural part of living

Living into Your Passions
Coaching, Dr. Peggy MarshallCheck your fears around living a passionate life and then build a plan for moving beyond them. As a coach, I always recommend starting with the easiest or less life changing passion such as identifying a passion that can be turned into a hobby.
