Jodie Wilson
The Founder of Discovertheregion.com, Discover The Region Publications, & Discover The Phoenix Region Magazine.
Jodie Wilson is the visionary behind Discover The Phoenix Region Magazine, a publication she launched in 2008 with a bold idea and an unrelenting drive to showcase the Phoenix region’s potential. Inspired by her friend Eve, owner of Discover The Dayton Region Magazine, Jodie assembled a team to explore expanding the concept to Phoenix. That same year, she founded the publication’s website, transforming it into a vibrant online hub for tourists and residents alike. Packed with business directories, local articles, how-to guides, and Phoenix living tips, the site quickly became an indispensable resource. Under Jodie’s leadership, website traffic skyrocketed by over 2,000%, amassing more than 2 million organic hits in under a year—a feat that earned a feature in Forbes magazine within two years. This digital success laid the groundwork for the print edition, which Jodie later brought to life alongside a dedicated team of collaborators.
A trailblazer in media and business innovation, Jodie spent years mastering the art of online engagement, becoming an expert in emerging social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Her foresight and adaptability—honed over a decade ago—continue to shape the magazine’s digital presence, ensuring it remains a vital voice in the region. Before founding Discover The Region Publications, Jodie built an impressive career at Cargill Inc., then the world’s largest independently owned company. There, she spearheaded initiatives like creating an ergonomics team, managing OSHA compliance, and establishing a Behavioral Based Safety Team. Her leadership extended to wellness programs, safety training for union members, and fundraising efforts—including a notable 9/11 campaign—earning her accolades such as Cargill’s Top Volunteer for Service in the Community and Employee Appreciation and Recognition awards.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jodie is a passionate community advocate and volunteer. A bone marrow donor and participant in the JennaBears Program, she has also organized fundraisers, including a 9/11 effort that raised $50,000. Her commitment to service shines through her roles with The 3000 Club as a food rescue volunteer, the Auxiliary Board of Valley View Community Food Bank, and memberships in groups like the Surprise Leads and Networking Group, the American Business Women’s Organization (ABWA), and Eco-Monday, an eco-friendly collective. Jodie’s energy and dedication—whether in the newsroom or the community—have made her a cornerstone of Discover The Phoenix Region Magazine. As Founding Editor, she continues to inspire a legacy of storytelling, connection, and impact that celebrates the heart and soul of Phoenix.
