Posture and Aging

I may be reveling my age, or that I watched to much TV as a kid, but I remember a commercial for hand lotion or dishwashing soap, that compared 2 sets of hands. The commercial asked the viewer to guess which hands were the older, trying to make the point that the product kept your skin looking young. Well certainly looking at someone’s hands is one way to guess their age, but I use a more obvious one – posture and movement. Think about the last time you noticed someone “walking like an old man”, or perhaps you thought that of your self, momentarily straightening your posture and then quickly falling back into the same bad habits. Wii Fit from Nintendo uses posture and balance to help determine your “age”. Click here for the full article.

Get a Grip on Wrist Pain

Our modern lifestyle is hard on the wrist and hands. As our lives become more sedentary, our hands work harder as our feet work less. Work, home and leisure activities include gripping, repetitive motion, finger and wrist flexion, prolonged positions with the hand closed in a fist. Gripping a steering wheel, computer activities, texting, use of tools all create wrist stress. Over time and repetition, these activities can result in weakness of the hand, numbness or tingling in the hand and fingers, grip weakness, pain of the hand wrist and arm.
