My sister and I for the past couple of months have taken up tennis lessons. What we thought would be nice experiment has turned into something we enjoy doing as well as hard work to acquire the skill of a tennis player. Our first lesson with the instructor was very humorous – we would hit the tennis ball forward, and it would go sideways or behind us, up in the air even. My sister almost hit me in the head! We also got a few close jibs to our instructor.
Pretty much 90% of the time we are laughing at ourselves.

It’s nice to try new things. Sometimes we need the few breaks in life we can get and we should use such times to try something different. It takes us out of our routine and adds more vitality. And I’m not talking about working out – I am talking about doing something that isn’t necessarily for a specific reason. For example, my sister and I aren’t training to become professional tennis players. If the opportunity arrived, who knows, maybe haha. The point is this is supposed to be fun and light.

Trying a new hobby (whether one time or for a lifetime) gives us something to look forward to during the week. I wouldn’t make it an everyday thing – but once a week like my sister and I do. Some may think you won’t learn enough unless you practice more – ah but that makes it work. Once a week means you will be learning for a much longer time before mastering the skill, and that’s okay. Take your time.

For the past month I have been trying to think of this blog’s topic – even up to my last minutes of submission – and this, my tennis, kept coming to mind. As well as a poem, but I think I am saving that for another day hehe.

Life can be stressful and very exhausting, very demanding. Let’s take a day of the week, and an hour out of the day (it doesn’t need to be all day, just an hour) and do something we have always wanted to do. I wanted to learn how to play tennis, so I am. Some of you might want to learn a second or third language or take up a cooking class – do it! Or maybe even a painting class – I love watching those PBS shows where you watch someone paint for an hour, I wish they came on more often, it makes me aspire to be a painter. One day I will. And one day I will learn at least some Russian, and Spanish, and even French perhaps – because lately I have been craving Europe.

I think golf might be next on the list, though. Maybe one of the above . . . .

So go have some fun – pick something new to do for one hour out of your busy week, take a family member with you or just go by yourself, that’s okay too. Enjoy trying something new, something you have always wanted to do, even if it’s not as fancy as skydiving but as intricate as crochet.

I hope every had a great Easter Sunday, and make the rest of your week the same, or better if it didn’t so well. It will get better.  (Psalm 23:4)
