Summertime

My favorite memories of summer are of me  and my sister at home. She would make us lunch full of dino-chicken fingers, Cheetos, ketchup and grape soda in a sippy cup. We always had to lay a towel on the floor where we ate and couldn’t eat on the bed until we were older. My TV was on a dresser and so we would pick our VHS, pop it in, and watch movies all day (with the exception of me playing with barbies and my sister saying they were sleeping so we could watch another movie). A lot of times we would watch the movie Grease and take turns singing the different parts, our other favorites being White Christmas and classic 90s movies. Other days we would spend down at our church, watching movies, playing games and just having fun.

Summer is a time of swimming pools, barbeques, and spending time with family. I have heard some parents dread summer because their kids are out of school, and to me that is a very wrong way to look at it. Summer is a great opportunity to do things with your kids (of course, working around your work schedule) but you can plan fun vacations, camping trips on the weekends, and seeing movies in the theatres. Or just staying up late talking. When your kids are older these are good memories they can think back on, and start traditions with their own children.

I know I am very excited for my vacation with my family coming up. I love spending time with them and getting to go out of town together and trying different activities just adds to it.

There are still weeks left of summer to spend with your family, even if you have to cram it on the weekends, take advantage of it. Go swimming, take them to a movie then out to dinner to talk about it; ask them how they feel about school coming up and how they are doing with their friends.

Like I said, I have favorite memories of summer.

And even though I wish I didn’t break a sweat simply by walking from my car to the store, I like to take in the season of sun and lemon bars (best chilled). Enjoy it too. The freeways are clearer, you have an excuse not to wear clothes around the house, sales for winter and summer are going on, all the movies are out, and much more. Make the most of your summer!

Have a great rest of July and August!
