We have been pleased to have guests on our television and radio talk shows who have shared valuable information, thought-provoking views, and tips for success in business and life. Among other things recently, we were regaled about the perils of traveling tomatoes; you’ll want to hear more, of course!

Archived topics so far run the gamut and include: business success, including ways to leverage networks and strategies for riding out a tough economy; compelling arguments for buying local Arizona products and services (think TOMATOES); and tax information from an enrolled agent (did you know the mileage deduction was raised to 58.5 cents a mile on July 1, 2008). And remember . . . at 50, you’re just getting started!

It’s time for the Revolution

Whether it is our State House or our Federal Government it is already obvious that the election is going to do nothing to make our lives easier. New leaders that made promises are already doing whatever they want to do with little regard for the average citizen in this country. They can’t agree on anything, and that is not a partisan statement. It makes no difference which side of the aisle you sit on. It is time that we take matters into our own hands now more than ever. We can no longer stand by and expect the politicians to lead. The only motivation they have is greed and power. Click here for the full article.

For What it’s Worth

There are any number of so called experts that tell us, the Baby Boomer Generation, what we want. They tell others how to market to us. These experts try to explain why we do what we do, why we buy what we buy, why we live the way we live and what we need to do to insure our "comfortable retirement." Click here for the full article.

Are We Having Fun Yet

It’s time we stop complaining, quit listening to the news broadcasts and get back to work. It’s my opinion that when you listen to the media broadcasts you end up depressed. I don’t know of any business owner that can perform effectively if they are wallowing in the news we hear every day. Click here for the full article.

Albert’s Hair

Do you remember that picture of Albert Einstein? You know the one that is a close-up with his wild hair all askew? The caption was “a bad haircut can make you look really dumb.” That’s the way it is with Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or any other short missive you publish, no matter how you distribute it. Personal Branding

According to the dictionary definition, branding is the sum total of a company's value, including products, services, people, advertising, positioning and culture (Dictionary.com). It is also the promise of the value you'll receive for the time you spend engaging with a person or in reading their sales message Click here for the full article.

Bertha Had Better Get a Clue

We were at the typical networking event. You know the one where people mill around a little, saying hello to their friends, sitting with the same people every week, having a little continental breakfast and generally not much more. I’m sure you’ve been there. Wondering WHY you are there. Heaven forbid you try to talk business with anyone; you are looked at like you’re a pariah. How dare you try to solicit business or set an appointment or get to know someone new at a networking group? Click here for the full article.

Back in the Caveman Days

Back in the caveman days, people sat around the fire (who got credit for harnessing that?) and chewed the fat (literally and figuratively). They got to know each other and built relationships based on shared interests and mutual needs. Building relationships, making connections, and asking for help are important aspects of keeping a business strong and competitive. We don't have to sit around a fire to accomplish those things, but we absolutely DO need a strategy for leveraging our existing sphere of influence to connect with the right people. Marketing guru Seth Godin calls this group of "the right people" your Tribe. If you are a Facebook enthusiast, you call the right people your Friends. For Linkedin users, your right people plus their right people comprise your Connections. And if you have discovered Twitter, you are Following and being Followed. Click here for the full article.

No Thank You or Kiss Off

We who write e-newsletters for the most part are doing so to disseminate what we hope is legitimate information. It is certainly the case that many of us are also trying to gain the attention of someone that is a potential customer for our service or product. That being said, I also understand that we all get a shload of crap emails. The question is what you do with the emails you receive. Is it SPAM or is it possibly good stuff but just annoying due to its volume. Click here for the full article.
