It’s time for the Revolution

Whether it is our State House or our Federal Government it is already obvious that the election is going to do nothing to make our lives easier. New leaders that made promises are already doing whatever they want to do with little regard for the average citizen in this country. They can’t agree on anything, and that is not a partisan statement. It makes no difference which side of the aisle you sit on. It is time that we take matters into our own hands now more than ever. Bertha Had Better Get a Clue

We were at the typical networking event. You know the one where people mill around a little, saying hello to their friends, sitting with the same people every week, having a little continental breakfast and generally not much more.

I’m sure you’ve been there. Wondering WHY you are there. Heaven forbid you try to talk business with anyone; you are looked at like you’re a pariah. How dare you try to solicit business or set an appointment or get to know someone new at a networking group?

Back in the Caveman Days

Back in the caveman days, people sat around the fire (who got credit for harnessing that?) and chewed the fat (literally and figuratively). They got to know each other and built relationships based on shared interests and mutual needs.

Building relationships, making connections, and asking for help are important aspects of keeping a business strong and competitive. We don't have to sit around a fire to accomplish those things, but we absolutely DO need a strategy for leveraging our existing sphere of influence to connect with the right people.

Marketing guru Seth Godin calls this group of "the right people" your Tribe. If you are a Facebook enthusiast, you call the right people your Friends. For Linkedin users, your right people plus their right people comprise your Connections. And if you have discovered Twitter, you are Following and being Followed.

No Thank You or Kiss Off

We who write e-newsletters for the most part are doing so to disseminate what we hope is legitimate information. It is certainly the case that many of us are also trying to gain the attention of someone that is a potential customer for our service or product.

That being said, I also understand that we all get a shload of crap emails. The question is what you do with the emails you receive. Is it SPAM or is it possibly good stuff but just annoying due to its volume.
